Being single is fun. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want. At the same time, there may be moments when you find yourself wishing you had someone to hold your hand, cuddle with, or share your life with.
The mistake many people make is believing that those feelings mean they can’t be happy until they’re in a relationship.
Before we begin, I want to make one thing clear: there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be in a relationship.
It’s perfectly healthy to want someone to buy you flowers, take you on dates, hold your hand, and build a life with you. I want those things too. Wanting love doesn’t make you needy; it makes you human.
Learning how to be happy being single doesn’t mean giving up on your dream of finding love or getting married. It simply means refusing to put your life on hold while you wait for it.
Your life is happening right now.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about how to be happy single.
Stop Waiting
One of the biggest mistakes we make is treating singlehood like a waiting room, as if it’s just the before picture. Before we fall in love. Before someone chooses us.
We put our lives on hold. We tell ourselves we’ll start travelling when we find someone. We’ll try that new restaurant when we have someone to go with.
You shouldn’t put your life on hold for a man because, one, this is your life. You are the main character. You shouldn’t wait for the love interest to be cast before you start acting. And number two, there is no guarantee that you’ll meet the love of your life next month, next year, or ever.
Yes, I went there. You might never meet the love of your life. Ever. Let that sink in.
And if that becomes the case in your life, are you just going to wait indefinitely to start living?
I need you to start living as if you will never fall in love. Start doing everything you have always wanted to do because your life is happening right now.
Focus on Yourself

If there is ever a time to be selfish, it’s now.
Right now, your time is your own. And so is your money and energy. You don’t have to consider or consult anyone before making a decision.
Take advantage of that. Use this time to pour into yourself unapologetically because this season is all about you.
Start New Hobbies
A relationship can be a wonderful part of your life, but it shouldn’t be your entire life. You should have things that excite you outside of your relationship. Interests that are yours, goals you’re working towards, and experiences that make your life feel rich and meaningful.
That’s where hobbies come in.
Fill your life with fun things that make you feel excited to be alive. Read more books, join a running club, learn to paint, take a dance class, start a garden, learn a new language, try pottery, bake, hike, volunteer, or do anything that sparks your curiosity.
Become an interesting person with a life. Hobbies make your life bigger. They introduce you to new people, teach you new skills, and give you something to look forward to. They remind you that there’s so much more to life than your relationship status.
Build a life that feels rich and interesting. Hobbies make your world bigger. They introduce you to new people, teach you new skills, and give you something to look forward to. They remind you that there is so much more to life than your relationship status.
Build Strong Relationships
When we think about love, we often think about romantic relationships. But your partner should never be the only person you rely on for love and support. That is a huge mistake to make because that puts so much pressure on your relationship, which is very unfair to your partner.
That’s why it’s so important to build strong relationships outside of your romantic relationship. You should nurture your friendships and spend time with your family. Create a community of people around you who love and support you.
If you do this, not only will your life feel fuller while you’re single, but you’ll also bring a healthier support system into your future relationship.
Go on Solo Dates

You don’t need to wait for a man to take you out to dinner. You can always dress up and take yourself out to eat. And darling, Paris looks just as beautiful without a man by your side.
So take yourself out for breakfast, buy yourself the flowers, and go to the museum you’ve been wanting to visit.
Start treating yourself how you want, neh, expect your future husband to treat you. You should start meeting your own dating standards.
Whatever you want your future partner to do for you, start doing it for yourself.
Be Grateful
“And when nobody wakes you up in the morning, and when nobody waits for you at night, and when you can do whatever you want—what do you call it: freedom or loneliness?”
—Charles Bukowski
When you’re single, you have the freedom to make decisions without having to consider someone else’s schedule. You can be spontaneous. You can move across the country or buy a boat without someone telling you it’s a waste of money. Please do not take that for granted.
One day, if you choose to get married or start a family, your life will look different. Your priorities will naturally shift, and your time will be shared with the people you love.
That’s why it’s so important to appreciate this season while you’re in it.
Don’t spend your single years wishing them away. One day, you may look back and do anything to experience this season of your life one more time. So, enjoy it.
Be grateful for where you are today.
Thank you so much for reading.
