20 Gift Ideas for the Booklovers in Your Life:

  • by

A book lover is a person who enjoys reading regularly. They feel emotionally attached to books, stories, characters, and authors.

As a fellow reader myself, I might be writing this post as a gift reference for my family and friends. Don’t judge me.

Reading is not simply an activity that we do in our free time. It is a characteristic of our personality, and an overall lifestyle.

So, if you have a book lover in your life, it is important for you to get this right. Below are 20 gift ideas for book lovers.

0. Book

Yes, sounds obvious, but you might be surprised.

As much as we are readers, we are also collectors. We love buying books, sometimes even more than reading. We have a huge list of books we would love to read. It would be insanely thoughtful of you to buy the book lover in your life 3 to 5 books on their TBR. Of course, make sure that they don’t already own a copy of the book.

To make this extra special, you can buy them a special edition of the book since they are also special to you.

Or buy them a book they love but cannot find a copy of. The best gift I have received is a copy of my favourite book from when I was 9 years old. I had originally read the book at a school library. It was by a small author (whom I did not remember) and had a very popular title. I had tried hunting the book down I was in high school and failed.

So, someone hunting down the book for me meant a lot to me. I hated the book after rereading it, but it still hands down the best gift I have ever received.

1. Bookmark

There is this running joke that readers use everything but an actual bookmark to save their space. And as much as that is true, we still love an aesthetic bookmark. Just like with books, we also collect bookmarks.

Get them a bookmark of their favourite book. Or with a cheeky quote that they would love. For example, I have this bookmark that reads, “I don’t watch porn, I read it like a fucking lady.” If your book lover is into smut or would think the quote is funny, you can get them that bookmark.

2. Reading Journal

Yes, I know. You’re thinking, Isn’t that just a notebook? And yes… technically. But hear me out. A reading journal is so much more.

As readers, we obsess. We remember quotes, characters, plot twists, books we loved, books we hated, books we are currently pretending we understand. A reading journal is where all that chaos is recorded.

For an extra thoughtful touch, consider getting them a journal that truly feels special. Maybe one with a hardcover, a cheeky quote, or a literary design they’ll love.

3. Personalized Bookplate

Bookplates are the ultimate personal touch. You can get one with their name, a fun quote, or even a little design that matches their vibe. Imagine giving someone a beautiful edition of their favorite book and inside it… a bookplate that says, “Property of [insert name], Supreme Reader and Collector of Fictional Souls.” I would die.

It’s thoughtful, it’s personal. Plus, it makes their bookshelf feel extra curated and Instagram-worthy.

4. Cozy Reading Blanket

Since reading is better done while warm. Get them a soft, oversized blanket. Maybe one in their favorite color, or a beautiful pattern. Bonus points if it’s fluffy enough to disappear into when a plot twist does not live up to their expectations.

5. Book Sleeve or Book Protector

Books are the most precious things on the planet. Therefore, they need to be protected. Enter the book sleeve.

A book sleeve is a soft, padded cover that keeps books safe from spills, scratches, and general wear and tear. You simply slide your book inside, and it’s ready to go wherever you go.

They come in different sizes, fabrics, and designs, so you can pick one that fits their favorite books and personal style. Some are even waterproof for extra protection. You can also find options that are personalized with a name, initials, or a small quote.

6. Candle That Smells Like a Library

Readers love ambiance. And nothing sets the mood for a good book like a candle that smells like old books and polished wood.

7. Reading Light

Sometimes our book obsession happens at inconvenient hours. A small, clip-on light or a portable LED is a game-changer. It lets your book lover read anywhere.

I currently don’t have a reading light (wink, wink to my friends), and I cannot tell you the number of times I have needed it.

8. Literary Tote Bag

Book lovers carry books everywhere. It’s part of our personality. A literary tote bag makes all of that hauling a little more stylish and a lot more practical.

Get them one with their favourite book, a cute quote, a classic book design, or something that fits their personality.

9. Book Subscription to a Book Box

This is the gift that keeps on giving. A book subscription means your book lover gets surprises delivered straight to their door. They will get books, stationery items, snacks, and book-related merchandise. This would be such an exciting gift.

10. Signed copy of their Favorite Author’s Book

This is a thoughtful and personal gift. And it will instantly feel like you went the extra mile, even if all you did was purchase it online for a few more bucks.

You can get them a signed copy of a book they have read a hundred times, because having a copy signed by the author turns it into something completely different, special, unique, and just a little magical.

I know this is obvious, but I will say it anyway. Do not go and get their favourite book signed by their favourite author alone if you can bring them.

11. Bookish Stickers

Book lovers love to personalize everything. Journals, laptops, water bottles, and even the covers of their notebooks. Stickers are a way to show off our literary obsession and to help attract other book lovers.

Get ones with quotes, cute illustrations, or bookish jokes. They’re fun, affordable, and add a little personality to whatever your book lover owns.

12. Reading Mug

Every book lover knows that a good reading session isn’t complete without a drink in hand. A reading mug makes that ritual extra special.

Get one with a literary quote, a cheeky book joke, or a cute design that fits their personality.

You can pair it with a cozy blanket or a candle for the ultimate reading setup.

13. Kindle or E-reader Accessories

Even if your book lover prefers physical books, a Kindle or e-reader is incredibly convenient for traveling or commuting. A Kindle will let them carry hundreds of books in one lightweight device. It is portable, and it’s perfect for reading anywhere.

And like any device, it’s worth protecting and personalizing. Think cases, sleeves, screen protectors, or small stands that make reading easier and help the device last longer.

14. High-Quality Pen Set

I know I am not the only one obsessed with the stationery aisle of every store and would literally spend all my money buying different variations of the same thing.

A good pen set that looks and feels expensive is a great gift to give a book lover.

15. Book Stand

I am in need of a new bookstand. And I would kiss whoever got it for me in the mouth. And I am sure all the book lovers out there share the same sentiment.

16. Custom Quote Print

Nothing says I get you like a quote that actually means something to your book lover. A custom print with a favorite line from a book, author, or even a personal inside joke can turn any reading space into something inspiring.

Pick a design that fits their style: minimalist, artsy, vintage, modern, boho, or whimsical. Then frame it for their bookshelf, wall, or reading nook. It’s thoughtful, personal, and totally unique.

17. Reading Challenge Poster

If your book lover loves goals, lists, or just a little friendly self-competition, a reading challenge poster is perfect. It’s a fun, visual way to track how many books they read in a month or a year.

Or you can get them a normal calendar with the theme of their favourite book or series. I recently saw a Fourth Wing calendar that absolutely melted my heart.

18. Library Card Holder

For the book lover who spends half their life at the library, a library card holder is both practical and stylish. No more digging around in bags or wallets. It would keep their library card safe and easily accessible.

You can find ones in leather, fabric, or even cute printed designs that match their personality. Some even have extra slots for a few other cards or notes, making it a tiny organizational miracle.

19. Bookstore Gift Card

In case of uncertainty, let them decide.

But this still indicates you care, particularly if you include a heartfelt message.

20. Time and Space to Read

Underrated yet strong. Respecting their reading time is sometimes the best gift you can give them… in addition to purchasing something from this list of gift ideas for book lovers.

There you have it, 20 gift ideas for the book lovers in your life. From practical items like book sleeves and reading lights to fun, personal touches like custom quote prints and literary candles, there’s something here for every type of reader.

All the best in finding the perfect gift for your book lover. And if I personally sent you this article, you don’t need luck because I clearly spelled out what I want.

I forgot to plug myself, if your book lover is into personal development. Buy them my book, No Bullsh*t Guide to Self-love. They will highly appreciate it.

If they are not, do not gift them my book because it sounds passive-aggressive. Like you are saying, they lack self-love or something.

Thank you so much for reading.

If you are feeling generous, please support me as a writer by buying me coffee here. I would highly appreciate that.
